Clean Drinking Water Expo 2018

On October 11, 2018 our team held a Drinking Water Expo at the South Florida Water Management District Headquarters. The team arrived early, setup the displays, filled the water tank and got ready for a busy morning. Rick, Bob and Madhav collected water from the C-51 canal behind the building and filtered it with the LIFESAVER Liberty bottle. As people started arriving some were brave enough to take a drink - with very positive feedback. There was a lot of interest in our displays showing the water purification system, water filters and ram pump. Cordella and Melenida were at the table where they sold baked items and bags. The SFWMD Governing Board meeting started at 9AM. We were on the agenda right after U.S. Congressman, Brian Mast, who spoke about the water discharges to the St. Lucie Estuary and green algae blooms. When he finished, Governing Board Member, Brandon Tucker, called us up to the front of the room to raise a glass and share a toast of C-51 filtered water. We were joined by Executive Director Ernie Marks and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Commander Reynolds. It was quite a spectacle to see us drink the water to a round of applause.
The Expo ran until 1:30PM. We had several people ask to see the Ram Pump demo which lifted water higher than the water source using only kinetic energy (gravity). People from India, Ethiopia and Bangladesh said they were familiar with the pump and learned about it in highschool. It's technology that has been forgotten for the past 100 years. The event ran a little late but we sold all the baked items, sold several bags from Nepal, received donations and we raffled a LIFESAVER Liberty waterfilter bottle. In the end we raised $457 which will go immediately towards our upcoming project in Nepal. THANK YOU! to all who helped, donated and attended.
